The analysis and wide communication of the EU topicalities have always had a special role within the European Studies Master’s Programme and other study programmes at the University of Latvia. Few of the 'hottest' points of the current agenda are the EU as a Stronger Global Actor, Transatlantic Trade and Investment partnership (the TTIP), recent Greece crisis and other issues.
On the November 24, 2015 the first public lecture within the series by Inna Šteinbuka followed by experts’ discussion about the European Commission’s topicalities will be organized to address these issues. The lecture will be held at the Senate hall of the University of Latvia (19 Raiņa blvd.) from 18:15 to 21:30. WE KINDLY INVITE THOSE INTERESTED TO REGISTER FOR THE EVENT HERE. Please note that due to limited number of seats the registration will be closed when a number of registered participants will reach 50.
The public lecture will be followed by experts’ discussion with the participation of Inna Šteinbuka and Andris Kužnieks, Deputy Head of the European Commission Representation in Latvia. The discussion will be moderated by Jean Monnet Professor Tatjana Muravska, Director of the European Studies Master’s programme at the University of Latvia.
The series of public lectures are organized as a part of the interdisciplinary European Studies Master’s Programme of the University of Latvia in a close cooperation with the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence and the Centre for European and Transition Studies of the University of Latvia, as well as with the support of the Latvian European Community Studies Association. The series of lectures are devoted to the 15 years anniversary of the European Studies Master’s Programme. Taking into account the large number of foreign students, researchers, participants from the ERASMUS+ and other academic exchange programs at the University of Latvia, the working language of the lectures and discussions will be ENGLISH.
The University of Latvia appreciates the opportunity to actively inform the students as well as take a part in the broad public discussion about the EU major issues, involving experts with the extensive professional EU experience. I.Šteinbuka’s knowledge and extensive experience is of particularly significant value given her professional involvement in representing European Commission in Latvia as well as her career in the corresponding positions in the European Statistics System Commission (Eurostat), International Monetary Fund and state institutions in Latvia. I.Šteinbuka has also been actively participating in academic life of the University of Latvia and Latvian Academy of Science for many years.
