At the end of 2014 thesis works of two doctoral students Sandra Heiden (Germany) and Klaus Venus (Austria) from the studies module „Global Management and Leadership” (Doctoral studies program in Management) were defended. A doctoral degree in Management science, in the subfield of Business Management, is received for the thesis work „A New Communication Approach for Customer Relationship Management in the Hotel Industry” (Sandra Heiden, supervisor prof. Klaus Kellner) and „Supply Chain Management Impact on Competitiveness of Business Organizations” (Klaus Venus, supervisor prof.Josef Neuert).
Under the feelings of Christmastime both expressed their joy about the result. For nearly 100 foreign doctoral students the faculty of Economics and Management of the University of Latvia is the residence for studies and research.
Everyday duties in entrepreneurship within different countries had to be combined with studies at the University Of Applied Sciences Of Kufstein in Austria, which was the partner university for this program, and studies in Latvia. The doctoral students from different study years are gladly meeting in Riga to participate in the locally organized international research conferences and to receive pedagogical experience in our student groups. More and more doctoral students are taking their family members to Riga to show them this already familiar town. A particular role in business contacts will be attributed to Riga and Latvia in the future as well. But for Sandra Heiden, Riga will always be a special place as here she did not only receive her doctoral degree - in the day of defence her boyfriend, who witnessed the defence process together with her parents, offered her an engagement ring.
