Dr. Ieva Birka and Dr. Didzis Kļaviņš attend the 16th Baltic Sea Region Forum at the University of Turku in Finland and meet implementation partners of their Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) funded project ''Prepared Together: Stronger Together''.

University of Latvia is currently the leading partner of a CBSS funded project focusing on promoting better preparedness for a changing security environment in the Baltic Sea region. The project launched in late 2023 and will continue until September 30, 2025. The project networks and encourages the cooperation of security, diplomacy, and preparedness researchers from the University of Latvia, Finnish Institute of International Affairs and Helmut Schmidt University in Germany.

Currently the project team is conducting an urban preparedness survey in the three countries to ascertain the threat perception and readiness to respond to potential disasters of the metropolitan area populations. From the survey data recommendations will be prepared, and further areas of work identified.

The meeting at the Baltic Sea Region Forum was an opportunity to discuss the progress of the project thus far, plan for the next in-person meeting in Latvia, and network with the wider Baltic Sea Region epistemic community.

For more detailed information about the project and the progress of its implementation, please contact Dr. Ieva Birka (ieva.birka@lu.lv) or Dr. Didzis Kļaviņš (didzis.klavins@lu.lv).
