Magazine "Avantūra"
“Avantūra” is a student-run magazine of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences (FESS) at the University of Latvia (UL). Its aim is not only to entertain readers by providing engaging and useful content, but also to offer students the opportunity to write articles, conduct interviews on topics of their interest, and gain hands-on experience in photography and layout design during the magazine production process.
The idea of a student magazine had existed for some time, yet the decisive step towards its creation came during the global pandemic and the shift to remote learning, which brought to a halt another project – the student television show “Kivi”. To fill this gap, lecturer Roberts Vīksne reached out to students in the spring of 2020. Among the first to respond was third-year student Aleksandra Moskaļenko, who went on to become the founding editor-in-chief of “Avantūra”.
By the spring of 2025, the magazine had published 20 issues. All editions are available on the UL digital journal platform, as well as in print at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences and in the collections of the National Library of Latvia.
The magazine is created by UL FESS students in collaboration with lecturer Roberts Vīksne. Any student of the faculty with an interest in writing, photography, interviewing, or layout design is warmly invited to join the editorial team. Those interested are encouraged to contact the editors by email.
Happy reading!
