Auers has studied at the London School of Economics (LSE) and defended his PhD at University College London (UCL) in the United Kingdom. He has been a U.S. Fulbright program researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, and University of Washington, Seattle, and a Baltic-American Freedom Foundation researcher at Wayne State University, Detroit.
