The seminar “Strengthening the Academic Environment: Developing Entrepreneurial Thinking and Practical Skills” took place at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz from September 8 to 12. UL was represented by FESS Professor Henrijs Kaļķis and faculty PhD students Baiba Lielbārde and Harsh Chauhan, as well as doctoral students from the UL program “Human Factors, Occupational Safety and Health”: Jekaterina Pankova, Kristīne Kursīte-Ģērmane, Marwan Babiker, Ayoola Lawal, and Anatolijs Roganovs. The seminar within the mobility program was also facilitated by UL lecturer Agnese Lastovska.
“Participation in the program in Germany was particularly valuable for doctoral students and young researchers,” notes Professor Kaļķis. “The most impressive aspect was the international colleagues’ experience in transforming academic knowledge into practical solutions for industry and society. It reaffirmed that at the University of Latvia we, too, can further develop professional, innovative, and diverse cooperation between science and industry.”
During the mobility program, participants deepened their understanding of the opportunities within the academic environment, gaining valuable knowledge about today’s entrepreneurship development, influencing models, start-up ecosystems, intellectual property and strategic issues, as well as new experience in team presentations.
Special added value came from interdisciplinary teamwork – exchanging ideas with a focus on industry opened up new opportunities to enrich science–industry collaboration, strengthen the academic environment, and create practical business solutions grounded in scientific approaches.
The multi-day mobility seminar was organized within the framework of the Forthem university network. It also featured the participation of the “Resilience, Life Quality and Demographic Change Lab” led by Professor Kaļķis.
Through participation in this seminar, UL contributed to international cooperation.
UL representatives extend their gratitude to Johannes Gutenberg University for organizing a mobility seminar rich in meaningful content.
